Studio Policies
FAQs

Late entry is disruptive for the class, especially as many classes start with breathwork/ meditation. Our classes start and end on time, and we ask that you're on your mat and ready to begin at least five minutes before the class starts.
We remain firm in our no-lateness policy. If you arrive late, even by a minute, you won't be allowed in. We make no exceptions to this rule to ensure fairness and consistency for everyone in the space. We know that trains, traffic, and weather can be unpredictable, so please plan ahead as best you can to avoid disappointment.
If the studio door is locked, please do not knock or attempt to enter as it can disrupt the energy of the class already in session. And if someone at the door is helping to uphold this policy, please treat them with kindness, they're doing their part to protect the experience for all

Basic Space’s class cancellation policy is 8 hours [12 for Reformer]. If you do not cancel outside of this window, this will constitute as a late cancellation and your credit will not be returned to your account. If you have an unlimited membership with us you will be charged £10. All members are charged a £10 no-Show fee so please do give up your space if you’re unable to make class to allow someone on the waitlist to get in. ClassPass or other external third-party bookings are liable to their cancellation policy. We cannot override this and will not mark anyone as ‘present’ when they do not show.
-
Please check-in with someone from our team before you head into the studio so they can mark you present. If you are visiting via ClassPass you must sign our waiver before attending class. Please note, it is your responsibility to ensure you are checked-in properly.
-
Phone use is not permitted during class at any time for safety reasons and out of respect for your teacher and those around you. Please store phones in the studio cupboard when you arrive and focus on being present in the space.
-
If you’d like to film your practice, you are welcome to book a private class or hire our space for a shoot. Under no circumstance are you to film yourself in a public class.
We love seeing your photos before and after practice, or of our space in general, but please be mindful of our members and do not take photos of anyone without their consent.
-
Bikes are not allowed in the studio [not even the fold-up ones]. Please lock your bikes to one of the benches, there are bike stands by the pub if you need something more secure. If you forget your lock it’s not our responsibility.
If you arrive on a public e-bike, please ensure it is left in a respectable parking place on the street as they are not allowed in the private courtyard. Please do not block our neighbour’s entrances or their cars.
-
Please consult with your doctor first before booking any of our classes.
If you're pregnant, please let the teacher know ahead of class. We don't recommend starting a new movement practice in your first trimester. We also don't recommend practicing any new movements you haven't been doing before your pregnancy.
If you already have a strong daily practice, then feel free to continue with your regular classes*. Listen to your body to know when to take a break from these classes. When you start feeling really restricted, we recommend our prenatal class.
*We do not recommend our yin classes as the increase in the hormone Relaxin can allow students to stretch beyond their normal capacity, leading to instability.
The following teachers are pregnancy trained: Jess L, El, and Sam.
The following teachers are mothers themselves: Jaime, Mubeena, Maria.

If you're new to our studios, please give yourself extra time to find us.
Our Stockwell studio is located at 5a Priory Grove, in a private courtyard off the residential street. We are the first studio on the right as you walk down.
Our lovely studio neighbours are artists, architects and filmmakers, so we ask that you keep outside noise to a minimum and refrain from shouting on your phone in the yard.
Our Camberwell studio is located at 4 Camberwell Passage, down a quiet walkway just off the main road.
-
At our Stockwell studio, we don’t have individual lockers, but we do provide secure jacket storage and cubbies inside the studio, so your belongings will be safe during class.
Our Camberwell studio does have lockers available for use while you're in class.
-
We’re a small studio, so we don’t have showers. Both our studios have spacious bathrooms where you’re welcome to change, and our Camberwell studio also has a small dedicated changing room.
Evenings and weekends can get quite busy, so if possible, we recommend arriving in your workout gear. -
We provide mats and props, but you are welcome to bring your own or a towel. In the colder months, bring a sweater for savasana + for the chill/yin classes. We do our best with the heating, but our beautiful windows can make things a little chilly.
-
We refer to most of our classes as 'Yoga', 'Pilates' or ‘Barre’ but all of the teachers are quite different. You can read through our teacher bios for more insight into their teaching styles, or try them all and find your perfect fit. We've made notes on teachers who move a little more fast-paced if that is or isn't your thing.
-
Beginners are very much welcome! :) We recommend letting us know if it’s your first class so we can give you some extra guidance.
Our favourites for beginners are Ellen, Britt, and Robyn (Yoga) and Zoë, Vicky, Beth, and Lily (Pilates), but if you're happy to get stuck-in then all of our teachers will accommodate you! We've all been new once.
